The kickoff for the historic community fundraiser for the Collegedale Commons, scheduled for Monday, has been postponed due to the severe weather and flood issues facing the region.
After checking with several weather experts, the ceremony has been moved from Monday to Thursday. The agenda for the event will be the same, starting at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until 7:30 p.m. The community Christmas tree lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at the site of the Commons, which is adjacent to City Hall in Collegedale.
“We are sorry that the weather has disrupted our plans, but we hope all the people who are excited about this project will come on Thursday,” said David Barto, director of the Collegedale Tomorrow Foundation which is developing the Commons.
The Commons will sit among the City Hall Campus among the Collegedale Library, Imagination Station and the Pickle Ball Courts. The Commons incorporates 14 acres of green space and will boarder the Green Way system directly linking Veterans Park. Upon completion, the City Hall Campus and The Commons will include 25 acres of dedicated green space, civic structures including The Market, a Concert Stage/Community Center and an Event Hall. This will be the cultural and recreational heart of Collegedale.
