Churches Provide Thanksgiving Dinners For Metropolitan Ministries' Clients

  • Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Once again this year, three local churches have provided Thanksgiving dinners for Metropolitan Ministries’ clients who could otherwise not afford the traditional Thanksgiving Feast. St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and St. Thaddaeus’ Episcopal Church have provided Thanksgiving dinners for 24 families, and Grace Episcopal Church provided hundreds of dollars worth of Food City gift cards to distribute to families who didn’t have the opportunity to sign up for the dinners.  Ascension Lutheran provided cleaning supplies, and the St. Nicholas Preschool provided canned goods.

Over the weekend, St. Martin’s distributed dinners to 20 MetMin families. On Tuesday, another four families received their Thanksgiving dinners, thanks to St. Thaddaeus’ Episcopal Church.

When Terrol Johnson brought his 78-year-old mom to MetMin to pick up their Thanksgiving basket, Elaine said, "I think this is wonderful! I’ll be cooking all day and that’s good. Just like it used to be.”

Executive Director Rebecca Whelchel reports that “The steadfast support these and other churches give MetMin brings year-round help and hope to the families who line up at our door each day. The extra Thanksgiving blessings bring extra joy to these families in need.”

MetMin is a 36 year-old agency that provides emergency financial support, wrap-around supportive services, and stability navigation.

MetMin is community hub where people come together in compassion, kindness, and mutual respect to provide needed assistance that prevents homelessness and fosters hopefulness.
