Chattanooga State Celebrates 50th Anniversary

  • Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Chattanooga State continues its 50th Anniversary with a three-day Reunion celebration beginning in the Sculpture Garden at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2 featuring, “Carols, Candy Canes, Cookies and Hot Cocoa.” Join the festivities, stroll through the brightly lit trees, and enjoy holiday melodies sung by the Music Department. At 7:30 p.m., move indoors for a Holiday Concert presented by the Chattanooga State Concert Choir and Symphonic Band, with selections by music faculty and students.

The event is free and open to the public.

Savor an evening out with like-minded supporters when Chattanooga State holds its annual “Dinner of Firsts – A Golden Celebration,” at the Chattanooga Convention Center on Thursday, December 3. John Germ, a first generation college graduate and charter member of the Chattanooga State Foundation Board will be “roasted and toasted” to help raise money for scholarships benefitting students who are first in their own families to attend college. Proceeds have funded more than 56 scholarships during the previous two years. The reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through noon on Nov. 30, by calling 423-697-3359.

A full day with a little nostalgia will wrap up the week on Friday, Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. when retired faculty and staff are invited for a free luncheon to meet Dr. Flora Tydings, new president of Chattanooga State, followed by a guided campus tour.

All alumni, as well as current and former faculty and staff, are invited to meet in the Humanities Theatre to take part in a “walk down memory lane” with a special presentation about the history of Chattanooga State from 1-2 p.m.

Beginning at 2 p.m., reunion receptions are planned for classes, divisions and departments. Attendees are invited to enjoy a piece of birthday cake and encouraged to meet current faculty and students as they explore the current programs offered through the college. The reunions scheduled include: Alumni and Founding Faculty, 1965-1969; Business Division; Engineering & Information Technologies Division; Nursing & Allied Health Division; and Student Life & Leadership.

Guided campus tours will be offered from 2-3 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. Alumni, retired faculty and staff who have not visited the campus for quite some time will be amazed at how the college campus has grown and impressed with the current technology of today that meets the needs of students just as technology of the past did 50 years ago.

Wrapping up the evening, visit the Alumni Art Exhibit from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Humanities Lobby featuring works from former students and music from the Chattanooga State Music Department. After a memorable day of reuniting with old friends and colleagues, settle in for a theatrical performance of “Scenes from the Play of Anton Chekhov,” beginning at 7:30 p.m.
