Teenager Arrested Sunday For Arson

  • Monday, November 23, 2015
Chattanooga Fire investigators arrested a 15-year-old boy Sunday afternoon after he was observed trying to start a fire.

Captain Andrew Waters with the Fire Investigation Division said the incident occurred shortly before noon at a two-story duplex at 5102 Woodland View Circle. Captain Waters said a maintenance worker noticed the boy trying to set fire to a cereal box and an old shirt next to a dryer vent on the exterior of the structure.
When the man started walking over to confront the youth, the boy ran off. No one was injured, and other than a little smoke in one apartment, the fire caused no damage to the building.

Chattanooga Police later found the boy hiding nearby in a garbage can.

Captain Waters charged the boy with arson and had him transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for booking.
