Covenant's Joanna Smith Named USA South Rookie Of The Week

Covenant women's basketball freshman Joanna Smith (Chattanooga Christian) has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week, announced the conference on Monday.

The 5-foot-8 freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., is the first women's basketball student-athlete to earn a weekly USA South honor since joining the conference.

Smith averaged a double-double of 10.5 points and 12.0 rebounds to go along with 3.5 assists and 1.0 block per game last week in two losses for the Scots. In a 75-68 loss at Sewanee, Smith totaled 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. In a 73-60 loss at Oglethorpe, Smith notched her first career double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds to go along with three assists and one block.

On the year, Smith is averaging 9.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
