Dora Maclellan Brown Scholarships To Be Awarded For 43rd Year

  • Thursday, November 19, 2015

The Generosity Trust will again award Dora Maclellan Brown Ministry Scholarships in 2016.  The scholarships are named in memory of the late Mrs. Brown, daughter of the founder of Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company, who helped educate students until her death in 1974.

Using her legacy, the foundation since 1972 has helped nearly 500 students prepare for leadership in Christian ministry. The first Dora Maclellan Brown Scholar was Dr. Timothy George, a native Chattanoogan who is the founding dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham.

Dora Maclellan Brown Ministry Scholarships are available to men and women from the Chattanooga area who are biblically conservative and are seeking a master’s degree at a theological seminary or other graduate school approved by the foundation. Scholarships are based on merit and need for the duration of the degree program, usually two to four years.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2016. A committee will interview finalists a few weeks later, the awards will be announced in April, and grants will begin in the summer. For more information or an application, write or call Henry Henegar at 266-5257, or download the guidelines and application at www.thegenerositytrust.org.
