How appropriate that the McCallie football complex – field and stadium – is now bookended with hall of famers.

The stadium is named for Tornado and Vanderbilt quarterback and college football hall of famer Bill Spears, while tonight just prior to kickoff of the McCallie-Ensworth game, the field will officially be called Pete Potter Field after the late Brainerd and Blue Tornado coach who is in the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame.

Potter coached McCallie teams for 20 years – 1973-1993 – and is the school’s winningest gridiron coach with a record of 155-67 with five district and two region titles.

Many former players will be in attendance at a reception at 5:30 p.m., plus joining the Potter family for the on-the-field ceremony at 7:15.
