Lee University Hosts Young Writers Contest

  • Thursday, October 8, 2015

Lee University is hosting the Young Writers Contest now through Nov. 13. All middle and high school students in Bradley and surrounding counties are encouraged to participate, and submissions are currently being accepted.

The contest is being facilitated by Lee’s Language and Literature faculty Dr. William Woolfitt and Dr. Katherine Carlson, “This is an opportunity for young writers to be encouraged in their writing and to give them the opportunity to be published,” said Dr. Woolfitt, assistant professor of creative writing. “It is also an opportunity to interest young writers in the wider world of writing.”

The students in the Introduction to Editing and Publishing class at Lee University along with other English majors are organizing the contest, jurying the entries, and choosing the winner.

Lee Review is a student-run publication that started in 1991 and is supervised by Dr. Woolfitt.  The goal of Lee Review is to look for creative writing and art to showcase the talents of students.

For those interested in entering the contest, poems of no more than 30 lines may be emailed to leereview@gmail.com. The poem must include the names of the student, teacher, and school that the student attends. The winning poem will be awarded $50 and will be published in the spring issue of Lee Review; the runner-up poem will also be published.

For more information, please contact the Department of Language and Literature at 614-8210 or email Lee Review at leereview@gmail.com.
