John Lee Curry, of Chattanooga, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Anniston, Al., on April 2, 1925, to the late Ruby and John Curry. Having moved to Chattanooga at a very young age, he spent the rest of his life there, with the exception of proudly serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater. He had been an active member of Avondale Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He became an active member of Tyner United Methodist Church, serving on various boards. He belonged to the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local # 43, he was well known and respected in his Plumbing and Heating business, and served as President of Mechanical Contractors and later served on the board of directors of Mechanical Contractors. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Curry in 1988, uncles, Hoyt and Homer Webb, and aunt, Ruth Myer.
He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his survivors, wife of 26 years, Dorothy Wilson Curry, daughters, Lierin Curry, Beth Wooddy, Cathy (Don) Bradley, sons, David (Donna) Curry, Al ( Donna) Wilson, granddaughters, Shelley Dobmeier, Dyea Tumlin, Kaylie Robertson, grandsons, Alex Curry, Stephen Curry, Bert (Cathlin) Bradley, Tyler Wooddy, Eric (Anna) Bradley, and Al (Brooke) Wilson IV.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, at 10 s.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Charlie Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.
