Take Back The Night Chattanooga Is Wednesday

Take Back the Night Chattanooga is an internationally recognized event that is a visible stand against sexual violence, specifically violence against women.  

Take Back the Night on Wednesday will begin at 6 p.m. at UTC’s Oak Street Amphitheater. Guest speaker, Wagatwe Wanjuki, feminist activist and advocate for ending sexual and power-based violence will share her story of survival.  

Following Ms. Wanjuki’s speech, a march through the Historic Fort Wood District will commence to raise awareness about these issues in the community. There will be a candlelight vigil to remember those who have fallen from violence immediately following the march. 

Schedule of Events:
6 p.m. – Live Music
Tabling by Campus and Community partners and sponsors
6:35 p.m.- Welcome and Opening Remarks
6:45 p.m.- Guest Speaker, Wagatwe Wanjuki
7:30 p.m.- March through Fort Wood Historic District to take a stand against power-based violence
8 p.m.- Candlelight vigil to honor victims and celebrate survivors, Acoustic Performance by UTC Students Emily Charles and Carly Garner
