Review for Rosella Ewing:

Rosella Ewing, mezzo soprano, is a passionate performer of operatic repertoire.  Residents of Chattanooga will recognize Ms. Ewing as the Mother from CSO’s productions of Amahl and the Night Visitors, and more recently as the mezzo soloist in the Verdi Requiem, the Best of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Chief among the many opera roles Ms. Ewing has performed in her career are Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Charlotte in Werther, Meg in Little Women, Mother Marie in Dialogues des Carmelites, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Mrs. Page in Merry Wives of Windsor, and the Mother in Hansel and Gretel.  Ms. Ewing has performed professionally with New Orleans Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, and at the Rose Theater with Lincoln Center. She also performed in the New York premier of Ainadamar at Lincoln Center.

Dr. Ewing brings her passion for opera to her performances in Oratorios and Art Song Recitals.  In recitals Dr. Ewing has performed works by a wide variety of composers including Bach, Barber, Berlioz, Britten, Debussy, Haydn, Respighi, and Schumann as well as many scenes and arias from Bizet’s Carmen.  She has also performed as a guest soloist in concerts with several ensembles in her former hometown including the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, the Chattanooga Bach Choir, and Choral Arts of Chattanooga.  She has also performed on concerts given by Asheville Lyric Opera and Opera in the Rock. The Tennessee Arts Commission honored Ms. Ewing with an Individual Artist Fellowship for voice in 2012.

Dr. Ewing is currently an assistant professor of Voice and Opera at The University of Arkansas in Little Rock.  In her current position, Dr. Ewing is passing on her passion for musical theater and opera by directing future opera stars in Opera Scenes Workshops and full productions.  Before coming to Little Rock, Dr. Ewing was a visiting professor of Music at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA, where she taught voice, music history, and opera workshop.
