Hunting Opportunities For The Wheelchair Bound

  • Monday, October 5, 2015

Cordell Hull Wildlife Management Area provides hunting opportunity for wheelchair bound hunters.  A wheelchair bound hunting zone on Cordell Hull WMA provides 6 blinds on a first come, first served basis. This zone is open only to hunters who are totally and permanently confined to a wheelchair as certified by a physician. On wheelchair-bound deer hunts, each wheelchair-bound hunter must be accompanied by an assistant (age 16 years or older), except on Cordell Hull WMA, where the assistant may also participate in hunting.

Gary Black, Cordell Hull WMA manager, establishes food plots on the WMA and Cordell Hull Refuge each year, enhancing opportunities for hunters. “We want all hunters to be successful.  TWRA is pleased to provide access and opportunities for all hunters," said Mr. Black.

The wheelchair-bound hunter zone on Cordell Hull WMA is open with the entire statewide season for deer, small game, trapping, turkey and waterfowl. For wheelchair-bound only hunts, each hunter must have the appropriate hunting licenses and a Type 094 WMA permit.

One hunt for wheelchair bound hunters will occur at Cordell Hull Refuge within the established wheelchair bound hunting zone on Nov. 7-8 according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The refuge is closed to all other hunters during this time. Blinds are limited and anyone interested in this hunt should contact Mike Fewell at mvfewell@yahoo.com.
