Youth Blast 2015 Is Friday And Saturday

The Southeast Tennessee Health Consortium, in collaboration with 18 Chattanooga-area organizations will present Youth Blast 2015: On a Quest for the Best at UTC, 615 McCallie Ave., on Friday and Saturday.  

This free event for youth in grades 6-12, is a two-day conference with opportunities to explore various topics relevant to the adolescent experience. The workshops and activities are designed to empower youth to be the best in their academics, familial relationships, social interactions, etc.

In addition to the youth workshops, there will be sessions for parents to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to parent today's teenager and to encourage positive relationships with their teens, said officials. 

Youth Blast 2015 will begin on Friday with a Youth Extravaganza from 7-9 p.m. in the UTC Auditorium with performances by New Orleans Rapper Dee 1, Singer Daryl Wheeler and a Step Show by UTC's Lamda Iota of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. 

Youth Blast 2015 will continue on Saturday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the UTC University Center.  The keynote speaker will be New Orleans Rapper Dee 1.  Topics will include:  College 101, Keep Your Head, Heels and Standards High, Social Media: The Dirty Truth, Girl Meets World (Girls Only), Boy Meets World (Boys Only) and Dating with Values.

This effort is a collaboration of the Southeast Tennessee Health Consortium Foundation and members of the following organizations:  Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., The Links, Incorporated, Gamma Pi Boule, The Shriners, The Masons, 100 Black Men of Chattanooga, 100 Black Women of Chattanooga, Hykos Temple No. 123, Public Education Foundation, city of Chattanooga Youth and Family Development and UTC Office of Equity and Diversity.
