Governor Bill Haslam addressed a gathering at the Jewish Cultural Center in Brainerd Thursday. He reported on his short visit to Israel in late August to develop synergistic business relationships with Tennessee companies. He said that he saw opportunity for Tennessee organizations to tap into the high level of technological expertise in Israel and combine it with the growing information systems resources of our local companies.

His most memorable impression of Israel was the sense that "being here matters" was a palpable sentiment from everyone he met -- from the low to the high. He expressed hope that all Americans could capture an equivalent sense of purpose.

There was commentary from audience member Dr. Thomas G. Devlin, director of the Southeast Regional Stroke Center at Erlanger Hospital, regarding advanced medical technologies being worked on at the hospital in collaboration with Israeli medical research organizations.
