Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland announced Monday the appointment of Gary R. Dennis to the Cleveland Planning Commission.
Mr. Dennis, 60, is a retired TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Reactor Operator. He was employed with TVA for 29 years.
"I am a progressive minded person and I look forward to inclusive growth that will benefit all of of the city," Mr. Dennis said.
"I appreciate Gary's willingness to serve our city. He will be a valuable member of the Planning Commission," Mayor Rowland said.
Mr. Dennis replaces Andrew Johnson who served on the Planning Commission from August, 2012 to October, 2014. Mr. Dennis will fill the remainder of Mr. Johnson's term which ends in January, 2016.
"I thank Andrew for his service, " Mayor Rowland said. "His work has benefitted the Planning Commission and all of the city."
Mr. Dennis is married to Valerie Donohoo Dennis and they have four children. He is a lay leader at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He and his wife have served as foster parents and as hosts to foreign exchange students. Mr. Dennis was educated at South Pittsburg High School, East Tennessee State University, and Chattanooga State Community College. He holds an associates degree in mechanical engineering and a nuclear reactor license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
