Business majors gather with Dr. Randy Miedaner for a final training session before the VITA program begins next week.

The Business Department at Lee University will partner with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program once again to offer free tax preparation on Tuesday and Thursday evenings Feb. 5-April 9.

IRS-certified junior and senior accounting students will provide assistance at the Walker Memorial Building in Room 101 from 6-8 p.m. by appointment. This year, Spanish translators will be available on site Thursday evenings for facilitating communication.

The VITA program at Lee, now in its eighth year, is a tax return preparation service for any qualified individuals or families whose maximum gross annual income does not exceed $50,000.

Returns will be filed electronically to the IRS. Taxpayers coming to the VITA site must have the following documents: photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone listed on a tax return, and source document to prepare tax returns. If insurance was purchased through the Marketplace, Form 1095-A must also be brought in order to receive assistance.

To schedule an appointment, call the Lee VITA site at 473-1160 or email VITA@LeeUniversity.edu. Walk-ins are welcome if space permits.
