Outdoor Chattanooga Offers Free Make Your Own Outdoor Video Workshops In February

  • Thursday, January 29, 2015

As a part of its annual Winter Workshop series, Outdoor Chattanooga will offer three classes on how to make an outdoor video on Thursdays, Feb. 5, 12, and 19, at 6:30 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga’s facility, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park.

The free workshops, formatted specifically for beginner film makers, will provide information and resources for amateurs to shoot, edit, and share a short outdoor film using footage captured by a smart phone, DSLR, or action/video camera.

Interested members of the public of any age can attend one, two or all of the classes, depending on what they want to learn. No reservations are necessary.

Professional videographers and teachers Louis Lee, Drew Renner, Philip Luckey, Chris Willis, and Corey Wentz will share their expertise on everything from how to find and build equipment on the cheap to setting up shots in outdoor environments.

Class #1, Feb. 5, Getting the Shot, will cover the basics of equipment, lighting, sound, perspective, and other things to think about before and during a video shoot.

In class #2, Feb. 12, Editing Essentials, students will learn about online and software editing programs, community resources for filmmakers who don’t have access to computers, as well as what to think about when editing a film. Participants will also learn about how to upload videos to YouTube and Vimeo.

Class #3, It’s a Wrap, will offer the public a chance to have their short video critiqued by the panel of instructors. Places to share these new videos, such as forums, websites, and film festivals, will be addressed as well. This session will be moderated by Lookout Wild Film Festival founder Andy Johns.

Members of the public who wish to submit a short (four minutes or less) outdoor video to be critiqued by the instructors, should send the video via a YouTube or Vimeo link to Zach Bopp at zach@outdoorchattanooga.com by Fri., Feb. 13.  Videos must be four minutes or less in duration, must be outdoor themed, may not contain any profanity, nudity or a call to political action, and must be submitted as a YouTube orVimeo link. Films will be critiqued as time allows, with preference given to those who have attended classes #1 and #2.
