Tony Sanders Gets New Term As County Republican Party Chairman

  • Thursday, January 29, 2015

The Hamilton County Republican Party gave Tony Sanders a new term as chairman at its Biennial Reorganization Convention.

To help kick-off the convention, Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger addressed more than 300 people in attendance.

The convention concluded with eligible precinct delegates voting unanimously to retain Mr. Sanders as chairman of the party.

District 3 Hamilton County Commissioner Marty Haynes nominated Chairman Sanders and "cited his efforts behind the scenes and ability to recruit high-quality candidates from diverse backgrounds as why the party made significant gains during the past two years."

Under the leadership of Chairman Sanders, the Hamilton County Republican Party increased the number of county-wide political offices held in Hamilton County, most recently in August 2014 when the party picked up four seats that were formally held by the opposition party, it was stated.

In addition, Chairman Sanders helped plan and organize two of the most successful Lincoln Day Dinners in Hamilton County, which featured former U.S. Rep. Artur Davis in 2013 and former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in 2014, officials said.

Mr. Sanders said, "The Hamilton County Republican Party has made great strides during the past two years, but we should not rest on past accomplishments. We must shed our divisive labels that often fracture our Party. Rather than focus on labels like 'establishment, Tea Party, conservatives or moderates,' it is time to be Republican first. It's also important for the Hamilton County Republican Party to reach out to communities where our opposition has succeeded and give all voters a clear reason why they should join the Republican Party."

In addition to re-electing Chairman Sanders, precinct delegates also voted to re-elect Paulina Madaris as vice chair and elect Ida Cotter as secretary, David Queen as treasurer and Steven Downs as vice treasurer.
