Winter Workshop: Jan. 29 - Fire by Friction
Learn about tools and techniques for starting a fire with a bowdrill, or flint and steel at our next free Winter Workshop, happening this Thurs., Jan.
29, 6:30 p.m.
 at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. Instructor Joshua McKinley will demonstrate the essential primitive skills and offer his expertise in fire making in wilderness situations. All interested members of the public are welcome.

Ease Into Yoga Series Jan. 21-Feb. 11
Continue Ease Into Yoga with a 4-week series on Wed. evenings, 6:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 21. Instructor Jayne Cagle will offer her special brand of joy-inspiring strength and relaxation techniques in longer, more focused classes. Cost is $48 for the whole series if registered by Jan. 20.  $15 per class walk-up cost. To register,email Jayne, or call or text (423) 344-6501.
 
Next Rapid Learning Kayak Skills Practice Feb. 3
The Rapid Learning Whitewater Program will host the next winter kayak skills practice on Tues., Feb. 3 at 7 or 8 p.m., at Southern Adventist University Hulsey Wellness Center's indoor pool. Cost for the kayaking program is free for Rapid Learning members or first time visitors. A $2 pool entrance fee applies. 
Camp Chair Cinema Feb. 6: "Dog Days of Winter"
The Lookout Wild Film Festival will present the "Dog Days of Winter," a film about the birth and boom of freestyle skiing in the 1970's for our next Camp Chair Cinema, happening on Fri., Feb. 6, 7 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. BYO-camp chair for this free indoor screening, which is a joyful look at 1970's skiing culture and the formation of an Olympic sport.

NPS Lookout Mtn. General Management Plan Comment Period

Enterprise South Mtn. Bike Trails Closed Through Feb. 13
The mountain bike trails at Enterprise South Nature Park will be closed until Feb. 16. Scuttlebutt is that when SORBA-Chattanooga is finished doing maintenance, the trails will be even better. We can't wait!

Governor's Environmental Stewardship Awards - 2015 Submissions Open
The TN Dept. of Environment and Conservation has opened submissions for the 2015 Governor's Environmental Stewardship Awards. The awards are designed to bring about a greater knowledge and awareness of effective practices and projects and to give proper recognition to those persons and organizations that make outstanding contributions to the natural resources of their community and the state.

Save Water, Drink Wine Feb. 8
The Caribbean/Tennessee Student Environmental Alliance will host a fundraiser to support their clean water programs with Save Water, Drink Wine on Sun., Feb. 8 at the Barn Nursery.   
Chattanooga Outdoors Show May 8-10, 2015
The inaugural Chattanooga Outdoors Show will happen at East Ridge's Camp Jordan Park and Arena on Mother's Day weekend, May 8-10, 2015. The show will bring in exhibitors from all over the southeast, showing off everything from kayaks and backpacks to ATV's and fishing boats. We'll be at the front door, welcoming everyone and offering the estimated 20,000 show-goers information about where to play with those toys. Learn more about becoming an exhibitor.
Kids for Clean Water Spring Gear Swap Apr. 18, 2015
The Gear Closet will take over our spring gear swap with the Kids for Clean Water Gear Swap on Sat., Apr. 18, 2015 at 535 Cherokee Blvd. on the north shore of Chattanooga. Proceeds from booth reservations will go towards their clean water programs in TN and abroad. To reserve a spot to sell or swap, email Tanner or call(615) 587-1239.

TN Indoor Rowing Championships Jan. 31
The University of TN, Chattanooga will host the TN Indoor Rowing Championships at Maclellan Gymnasium on Sat., Jan. 31, from 8 a.m. to about 5 p.m. Several hundred collegiate rowers from across the state will complete. Spectating is free and the public is welcome.
Moccasin Bend|National Park Service
Blue Blazes Trail Hike Jan. 31
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided hike of the Blue Blazes Trail on Moccasin Bend this Sat., Jan. 31, 9:30 a.m., starting from the Blue Blazes parking area off of Moccasin Bend Rd. The two mile hike will take approximately two hours over moderately flat terrain. Special Event" signs will be posted along the road to help guide visitors.  
Bluegrass Underground Announces Taping Dates at Cumberland Caverns!
The PBS show, "Bluegrass Underground" has announced their spring filming schedule at Cumberland Caverns, located about an hour and a half north of Chattanooga, near McMinnville, TN. Mar. 27-29, 2015, the Emmy-winning series will tape some of the best, most progressive bluegrass bands in the country in the caverns' Volcano Room. Tickets go on sale Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.
