Zoey Horton
The Chattanooga Police Department is asking the community to help support the Horton family as their one-year-old daughter, Zoey, recovers from a gunshot wound. Funds are needed to help with housing and medical treatments for the child, who doctors have stated may suffer from paralysis. At this time, the fundraising campaign has raised over $1,200 of their $2,000 goal.
“All Chattanoogans should be proud of the way our officers have responded during this tragedy,” said Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. “From the very first responders on the scene to today, we have an engaged police force and community dedicated to helping others in their greatest time of need.”
On Jan. 7, four were shot during a home invasion that took place at 773 W. Main St. During the incident Marcell Christopher, Talitha Bowman, Bianca E. Horton and Ms. Horton’s 14-month-old daughter were shot. Ms. Bowman was pronounced deceased on scene.
The suspect in this case, Cortez Sims, was arrested on Jan. 9.
“This was a heinous act of violence against a child, a family and our community,” said Chief of Police Fred Fletcher, who personally responded to the scene of the crime on Jan. 7. “I cannot begin to imagine what this family has endured but I do know my officers care deeply about helping the victims of violence in any way possible.”
Lt. Tammy Cook, lieutenant over Charlie Zone, has been helping the Horton family and is asking that all officers and community members support this family during this trying time.
“Ms. Horton can use any help that she can get since she is missing work while she stays by the side of her child,” said Lt. Cook. “As officers, we are dedicated to helping those in need. And this family needs our entire community’s love and support.”
