Re: Project Launched For Chattanooga Multimodal Transit Center
So, we're going to do a study with Knoxville on a multimodal transit center that has existed only for four years?
I'm wondering, will it be anything like the one in Toronto, Canada that I visited back in the 1990s? A very impressive transit system centrally based at Union Station that combines subway, bus, local and cross-country rail service, shuttle, bicycle, airport and ferry access, plus free customer parking from many access locations in and around the city.
Nothing like recreating the wheel when a prime example of what works and what doesn't, along with very detailed and experienced insight into public and user costs involved in creating and maintaining such an integrated system, is already there for the asking from our neighbors to the North, despite the difference in size between the two cities.
It seems like city long range planners would simply avail themselves of that knowledge before they commit to something that may very well prove to be financially unrealistic, unwanted, and unneeded for a city our size.
