  • Tuesday, September 9, 2014

Teams of volunteers from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will complete both large and small-scale projects throughout the Bushtown Neighborhood including at Orchard Knob Middle School.

Over the last several years, Habitat for Humanity International has been encouraging all Habitat affiliates to do more than build homes by expanding their impact through its Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program is a series of four community outreach services designed to help Habitat affiliates provide a wider range of housing solutions:  A Brush with Kindness – Exterior repair and preservation, Weatherization, Critical Home Repair and Rehab of homes.
The Chattanooga Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity has been working for the last two years to add A Brush with Kindness and Weatherization to their services.

Last year, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area received funding from the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga Habitat was able to complete their first eight test projects in the Bushtown Community.  This year, thanks to a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Economic and Community Development, Habitat is on track to serve an additional 16 families in Bushtown in the coming months.

Presently, Habitat is only working in the Bushtown community; however, they are hoping to expand services to other communities in the near future pending community support and funding.
