Many Events Scheduled For UTC Homecoming Sept. 28-Oct. 4

This year’s UTC Homecoming events begin on Sunday and end on Saturday, Oct. 4, with the Mocs football game against Virginia Military Institute kicking off at 4 p.m. at Finley Stadium.

Traditions such as field games, the golf tournament, and tailgating are back, and several new events have been added this year. The Mocbuster outdoor movie will feature a sing-a-long under the stars at Chamberlain Pavilion starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1. 

Wear blue and gold and join the Homecoming Spirit Run at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Registration is $15 and children under 8 are free. 

One of the week’s most popular events, Step Show, has moved to Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. Admission for students is free and $5 for the general public. For more information and to stay up-to-date on all Homecoming events, visit the Homecoming website.

Sunday, Sept. 28
Banner Painting
3-7 p.m., Lansing Court/Vine Street
Rain location: Lupton Library Garage
This student activity has become a tradition to start UTC Homecoming week.  Student organizations have an opportunity to paint a canvas banner depicting the homecoming theme “Mocsbusters.”  Banners are hung on University buildings and displayed for the entire Homecoming 2014 week. Open to UTC students and student organizations.  Participation registration is required. 

Monday, Sept. 29
Homecoming Kickoff Pep Rally
11:50 a.m., Chamberlain Pavilion
Join the 2014 Homecoming Kickoff Pep Rally and hear from coaches, students, and more about the plan for the showdown with the VMI Keydets. The 2014 Homecoming Court will also be announced along with music from the UTC band and cheers by the UTC spirit squads. Free and open to the public. 

Tuesday, Sept. 30
Lip Sync
8 p.m., McKenzie Arena
Come out and watch how students turn their spin on the movie-themed Homecoming, “Mocsbusters,” and perform six minutes of song, dance and skits.  Free and open to the public. 

Wednesday, Oct. 1
Field Games
4 p.m., Heritage Plaza/Challenger Field
The tradition of field games never gets old. Students from all campus organizations come together to compete in various field games like the annual Trout Joust, tug of war, and bed races. Spectators welcome. Participation by students only (must be pre-registered).  Observation free and open to the public. 

Mocbuster Outdoor Movie
8 p.m., Chamberlain Pavilion
Sing-a-long under the stars as we present the top grossing movie musical of all time. We’ll have free food, giveaways, contests, and lots of fun. We can’t tell you the name of the movie, but from “Summer Nights” to “We Go Together,” you know the songs and the movie, now come have a Mocsbuster good time. “Fun” is the word, is the word, is the word! Free and open to the public. 

Thursday, Oct. 2
Tap Party
5:30 p.m., Big River Grille (downtown), Broad Street
Join the young alumni/recent graduate signature event:  Homecoming Tap Party 2014.  Help pack Big River Grille, and enjoy billiards while tasting the official brew of Homecoming 2014, specially created by Big River’s brew-masters.  Hosted by the UTC GOLD Council. Free and open to the public; all alumni are welcome. 

Scrappy’s Band Fest
7 p.m., Chamberlain Pavilion
Fill your Thursday night during Homecoming week with live music, free food, and lots of fun at this Battle of Bands and Fall Carnival. Free and open to the public. 

Friday, Oct. 3
UTC Homecoming Golf Tournament
Noon; Shotgun Start, The Bear Trace Golf Course at Harrison Bay
Grab some friends, don your best blue and gold golf outfit and make plans to play in the our annual Homecoming Golf Tournament at the Bear Trace Golf Course at Harrison Bay. The proceeds from this tournament help to fund alumni programming and UTC student scholarships. Open to the public, golfer registration fee $125/player. 

Community Pep Rally at Miller Plaza
Noon; Miller Plaza Downtown Chattanooga
Join Coach Huesman, his staff, and various football players at Miller Plaza for a community pep rally to help get everyone ready for UTC Homecoming. The Marching Mocs and UTC spirit squads will all be on hand to perform as well to get everyone in the spirit for the weekend’s festivities. Free and open to the public. 

Step Show
7 p.m., McKenzie Arena
Join the students, campus and community and sit on the edge of your seats at one of the longest running Homecoming traditions…Step Show.  Student organizations from across campus are prepared to step it up as they give the crowd the most anticipated performances of our Homecoming week. Students admitted free with valid Mocs Card.  General Public Admission is $5/person.  Tickets available at the McKenzie Arena Box Office.

Music Department “Scrappy Hour”
5:30-7 p.m., Chamberlain Pavilion
Come visit with fellow music alumni. Light appetizers and entertainment by our own Marching Mocs. Continue the party at the Chattanooga Brewing Company (1804 Chestnut Street, next to Finley Stadium) or restaurant of your choice in beautiful downtown Chattanooga.  $5/person; registration through Music Department required. 

Honors Homecoming Gala, sponsored by University Honors (UHON)
6:30–8:30 p.m., Lindsay Street Hall
Join us for a special honors celebration.  All Brock Scholar and UHON alumni are invited to a cocktail party to honor our long tradition of honors and to inaugurate UTC’s new Honors College. Come for hors d’oeuvres and drinks, see old friends, meet new staff, and hear about plans for the renovation of the Guerry Center and innovations in honors at UTC.  Registration required.  Contact Debbie Bell in the University Honors Department with questions at 425-4130. 

Kappa Delta Sorority Open House
6:30-9 p.m., Kappa Delta House
Come kick off our 15th Anniversary Celebration weekend at the Kappa Delta House!  There will be food, tours and a goodie bag!  Event is free to KD alumnae.  Registration required. Contact Pruitt Holmes with questions at (615) 260-7937. 

Saturday, Oct. 4
Breakfast with Coach Huesman
8 a.m., University Center, Chickamauga Room (3rd Floor)
Join the UTC Mocs Club and get a preview of the big game versus the VMI Keydets from Head Football Coach Russ Huesman. Contact Caleb Whitted, Director of the Mocs Club for reservation information, 425-4773. $10 per person. 

Homecoming Spirit Run
9 a.m., UTC Campus
Join us for the inaugural Homecoming Spirit Run.  Enjoy seeing the campus in this 4.5k run and/or 1-mile fun walk.  Participants will pass through spirit stations to get them ready for tailgating & the big game.  Registration is required; open to all UTC alumni, students, campus and community friends and family.* *Cost is  $15 per person. Deadline to register: Sunday, Sept. 28, at 11:59 p.m.  

Alumni Tailgate Zone

1 p.m., Alumni Tailgate Tent at First Tennessee Pavilion, Finley Stadium
Join UC/UTC alumni as we tailgate in Blue & Gold style before the Homecoming game against VMI.  Food/beverage provided for registered guests.  Cost $5/person. Registration required (coming soon), you will be asked to create/login to a MocsConnect account in order to ensure that registering guests are alumni. Deadline to register: Sunday, Sept. 28, at 11:59 p.m. Open to Alumni and Family. 

Chattanooga Mocs vs. VMI Football Game

4 p.m. Davenport Field at Finley Stadium
Wear your Blue and Gold and cheer on our Mocs as they take on Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Enjoy the halftime and post game festivities as we announce the 2014 Homecoming Queen and Top Moc and Homecoming Best Greeks and Organizations Awards. Game is open to the public.

Join us after the football game at First Baptist Church for an Italian dinner from Chattanooga’s BiBa’s Italian restaurant. We will take a few minutes to recognize this years’ distinguished alumni recipients.   $20 per person; registration required through UTC Music Department.
