NRC Schedules Oct. 1 Meetings To Discuss Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 2 Construction

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled two meetings for Wednesday, Oct. 1, to discuss the status of the Watts Bar Unit 2 construction project.

Watts Bar Unit 2 is being built by TVA near Spring City, Tenn., which is about 60 miles southwest of Knoxville. TVA also operates Unit 1 at the site. 

The meetings will be held back-to-back, beginning at 5 p.m. at the meeting room of the Comfort Inn, 2811 Decatur Pike in Athens, Tenn. Prior to the meetings, the NRC staff will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m. for informal discussions with the public. 

At the 5 p.m. meeting, NRC will discuss the project with TVA officials. The discussion will include the project’s status, major milestones and potential challenges that could impact the unit’s completion schedule. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., NRC officials will discuss the status of NRC licensing and inspection activities with members of the public.
