It isn’t every day one gets a chance to see a Chattanooga Music Hall of Fame act perform, but the Hamilton County Fair will give visitors a chance to see three different ones. Overland Express, Jimmy Tawater & the River City Showcase, and Roger Alan Wade, all members of the prestigious Chattanooga Music Hall of Fame, will perform at the fair this coming weekend.

24 acts will perform over the 2-day fair on two different stages.

The Pickin’ Porch features solo and duo artists and the Dallas Island Stage features full bands. The music starts each day at 11 a.m. and continues until about 6 p.m. Vendors are on site with great food and beverage selections, so spending the day at the fair is no problem.

Getting to the fair is easy – you just ride their bus and they drop you off right in the middle of the action. There is a $6 charge for adults and a $4 charge for kids 3-12. Kids under 3 are free. You can park at Northgate Mall or the Middle Valley Recreation Center to catch the shuttle bus. Don’t even think about parking at Chester Frost Park.

All in all, the music at the Hamilton County Fair will rival that of any music festival. Many of the acts feature “best of” performers from the Chattanoogan annual music awards. The 2013 winner of Best Blues Band, the Austin Nickels Band, features Kris Phillips on guitar, recipient of the first Guitar Player of the Year award in 2007. On keyboards, Tyler Southern will tickle the ivories, himself being the 2012 Keyboard player of the year. Randy Johnson, a member of 8TRK, is also in the Hall of Fame band The Beaters. Robert Williams, keyboardist for the Stratoblasters, has won the award a couple of times. Decibella features lead singer Bexy Ribeiro, recipient of Entertainer of the Year in 2012.  The Sullivan Band has last year’s Male Vocalist of the Year in Jeremiah Sullivan.

Tawater’s band is so chock full of superstars it’s hard to remember them all. Last year’s Guitar Player of the Year, John Cady, plays lead guitar. Jim Rhodes, a 4-time winner of Bass Player of the Year, plays bass for the River City Showcase. On drums is 3-time winner Johnny Smith. Tommy Lifsey on Latin percussion, is a Hall of Fame member of Overland Express. Carle Vickers has won twice in the horn category, and is also a founding member of the platinum record selling band LTD.  Janella Hayes sings co-lead along with Jimmy Tawater and Jim Rhodes. She is the 5-time winner of Best Female Singer.

As far as future stars go, watch for the Rock Skool of Chattanooga, as youngsters from 7-17 will amaze you with their talents. Seasoned veterans like Mike McDade, Tim Lewis, Mark Kelly Hall & Summer Shyvonne, PJ Steelman, Keenan Hegarty, Jon and Michelle, Roy Harper, Paul Constantine, Son Life Quartet, and the Old Time Travelers will keep your interest piqued throughout the day. Watch for some of the newer acts, as well. Heidi Holton, Scarlet Love Conspiracy, Courtney Daly, Luke & Jessi, and Coley are all made up of real professionals, but are somewhat new to the Chattanooga area music scene.
