Thomas Leslie Lyons, 88, of Hixson, Tennessee, died on Monday, September 22, 2014.

He was born in Frankfort, Ky., Sept. 2, 1926, to Thomas Robert Lyons and Jessie Wilmot Lyons.

Following high school graduation from Frankfort High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from August 1944 to June 1946. He then entered the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.

He married Mary Lou Ziegler in Frankfort, Kentucky, on March 20, 1948.

He was employed by Southern Bell and South Central Bell Systems all of his working career in five cities in Kentucky and Tennessee. He retired Oct. 31, 1987, in Chattanooga, as operations manager, engineering.

As a registered professional engineer in Kentucky and Tennessee, he was active in professional engineering organizations, including the Chattanooga Engineers Club, serving as president in 1987.

Tommy was an active member of Red Bank United Methodist Church where he taught an adult Sunday School class for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Lyons. Surviving children are Thomas Robert (Marcia) Lyons of Springfield, Tn., Mary Leslie ( Steven) Tipps of Signal Mountain, Tn., and Peggy (Alan) Mynatt of Cleveland, Tn. His grandchildren are Cayce Broker, Leslie Spuler, Joshua Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, Jarrod Lyons, Beth Tipps, Katelyn Dowlen, Amanda Huyser, and Logan Mynatt. He is survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Margaret Grimsley of Hearth Hospice for her devoted care and service.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Red Bank United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Thomas will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at Red Bank United Methodist Church with Reverend Bruce Galyon officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
