Reverend Robert Franklin Pierce, Jr., 59, died peacefully at Athens Regional Medical Center on September 1, 2014.
He was born in Fort Oglethorpe, the son of Frank and Margaret Pierce. He graduated from Ringgold High School and spent his childhood in the Boynton community of Catoosa County. He graduated from Berry College in Rome, Ga. and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. He served as a pastor of Baptist and United Methodist Churches in North Carolina and Georgia. He was an elder in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. His appointments included McGaughey's Chapel, Mount Pleasant, Fairview-Fort Oglethorpe, Graysville UMC, Trion United Methodist Church, Lithia Springs, Powell Chapel, and most recently, Bold Spring UMC. He was involved in the Emmaus Community. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society and was a member of the Berry College Alumni Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Hillary Pierce, of Austin, Tx., three brothers, John D.Pierce, of Macon, Ga.; Barry Pierce, of Taylorsville, N.C. and Tim Pierce, of Fort Oglethorpe.
There will be a memorial service at Barnwell Chapel on the Berry College campus at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, with visitation the evening before at Boynton Baptist Church from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the National Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.
