Community Foundation Celebrates 50th Anniversary By Giving $37,000 To Non-Profits

The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga celebrated its 50th Anniversary Saturday bygiving $37,000 to local non-profits who participated in their Greater Race Adventure.

Twenty-five organizations participated in the Greater Race: A GeoCASH Adventure on Saturday. Each organization had a team of four members who competed in a geocaching, adventure-race across downtown Chattanooga. At 9 a.m. the teams received coordinates via the Community Foundation’s  Facebook and Twitter and then began racing across downtown to each of the locations.

The 25 teams had to navigate to 13 different stops (all non-profits) around downtown before returning to the First Tennessee Pavilion. Then they had to complete a trivia card before racing to the finish line.

Northside Neighborhood House came in 1st place and won $20,000; Legal Aid of East Tennessee came in 2nd place and won $10,000; Mark Making came in 3rd place and won $5,000.

There was also a $1,000 drawing for all the teams who participated, and it went to Ballet Tennesee.

UnifiEd also received a $1,000 donation in a random drawing of local charities nominated by the public.

In addition to the event, the Community Foundation announced a $40,000 gift that will be used to
construct a trail shelter at a new access point close to where ML King intersects at Riverfront Parkway.

In the last 10 years alone, the Community Foundation has given over $161 million in grants.  See more about the event on Facebook: facebook.com/communityfoundationofgreaterchattanooga
