Hershell Shaffer, 93, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, September 12, 2014.

He was born in Valley Head, Al.

Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by his parents, Harry B. and Lillie B. Shaffer, and his brother, J.D. Shaffer.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel Fay Rollins, and his daughter, Maria S. Blose.

Mr. Shaffer was a decorated veteran of World War II, earning three Bronze Stars. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operation, including the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, with Reggie Asplund officiating.

Funeral arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of  Lane Funeral Home and Crematory at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
