Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Marcus D. Toney, Son of Marvin L. Toney of Chattanooga, and Regina Y. Sydnor of Richmond, Va., was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal .

The Commendation Medal is awarded to those who show meritorious service and devotion to duty that keeps with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Mr. Toney received his Commendation Medal for providing CPR to a local child until paramedics could arrive and thus saving his life.
Mr. Toney is assigned to Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Sicily.

"It feels good, it really does, but I don't look at as I saved someone's life" he said. " As American military members, we are constantly trained to help out in crisis situations. I just stepped in where I was needed and helped out where I could. It's not that I don't appreciate the praise, but I just did what I did when I had too, and that's it."

Mr. Toney is a 2006 graduate of Henrico High School, Richmond, Va.
