Mildred Jeanette Payne Skelton, 87, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, August 31, 2014 in a local hospital.  

She was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Soddy Daisy to the late Hab L. and Queen E. Payne.

Mrs. Skelton was retired from Bell South after 40 years of service. She was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. 

She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.

Her husband of 51 years, Clifford E. Skelton, one son Eddie Skelton, and three brothers, Bill, Bud, and James Payne preceded her in death. 

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary S. (Sandra) Skelton; Ricky E. (Jackie) Skelton of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Kathryn Reiniche of Chattanooga, Derek (Stephanie) Skelton of Rock Springs, Stacy (Stephen) Johnson of Knoxville, Allison (Derek) Jones of Knoxville, and Amanda (Alex) Stinson of Chattanooga; two sisters, June Lanius of Hixson; Diane (Wayne) Campbell of Soddy Daisy; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  

The family would like to express their gratitude to the 2nd and 3rd floor nurses at Memorial North Park Hospital for their excellent and professional care for Mrs. Skelton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. in the North Chapel with Reverend Bert Jones and Dr. Fred Steelman officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn.
