ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's soccer team could feel another victory coming on. Unfortunately, lightning in the Atlanta area would take away any chance of the Scots getting their second win in as many days.
With 28:39 left in the second half, the match between Covenant and Centre was called off due to the weather conditions. Covenant held a 1-0 lead at the time. The match is officially a no contest and no statistics will be counted.
For a match to be considered official, 70 minutes must be played.
This one was just 8:39 away from that point.
Snoopy Davidson scored in the third minute, with assists from Ian Meredith and Joel Friesen, as he put the Scots ahead 1-0. Covenant was out-shooting Centre 10-3 overall and 5-0 in shots on goal when the match was called. But all those statistics will be thrown away.
Covenant will take its 1-0 record into next weekend's David Taaffe Invitational on Lookout Mountain. Maryville, Wilmington (Ohio) and Millsaps, along with Covenant, will make up the field. Covenant plays Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. against Wilmington after Maryville and Millsaps play at 5 p.m.
