Cleveland attorney Barrett Painter was appointed to the position of city judge by the Cleveland City Council on Monday afternoon. He will replace the late Judge Bill Moss.

He will be officially sworn in on Sept. 8.

He said of Judge Moss' reputation for fairness, "I hope I can follow in his footsteps."

During the meeting, awards were also given out to three firefighters for their participation in a life saving rescue back in May.

Matt Wittmaier, Jeremy Greenleaf and Zach Reagan were all presented with their awards by Mayor Tom Rowland and fire chief Steve Haun.

It was also announced that money from a JAG grant award would be used to purchase body cameras for the cars of the Cleveland Police Department.
