John Pauley died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 77.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Pauley and Gladdine Bray, both of Florida, and his sister, Carol O’Sada.

Jack was born in 1937, in Mt. Morris, Pa., educated at Titusville High School, Georgia Southern University, where he was an All-American college football player, and at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  Between his junior and senior year in college, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Germany. After returning from Europe, Jack finished his college career at University of Chattanooga, where he was an active member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. In 1965, married Glenda Henry.

In addition to other commercial ventures, Jack was a longtime commercial real estate developer and businessman.

His family, his close-knit group of friends, his love of the game of football, and his time spent at Watts Bar Lake, together created a full life well lived.

Jack is survived by his wife, Glenda, and daughter, Monique. He is also survived by his sister, May Church, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Alexian Village Health and Rehabilitation Center and the devoted caregivers who gave so compassionately for the past two years. Additionally, the family thanks the devoted nurses and caregivers of Memorial Hospital, for their grace and kindness in his final hours. 

Visitation will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home - North Chapel.

A graveside ceremony will be held a 1 p.m., following visitation, with Reverend Michael Lindon officiating.

A memorial service will follow from 2-4 p.m., at the Council Fire Golf Club, 100 Council Fire Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alexian Brothers Foundation, Signal Mountain, Tn.

Arrangements are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist, North Chapel, Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
