Raiford (Ray) Carter, 81, of Athens, TN, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014.
Born May 13, 1933 in Moultrie, GA, he was a military veteran having served during the Korean war. Known as the "mater" man selling produce from his little white truck in the Madisonville/Athens area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mamie Garrette Carter; brothers, Jesse Carter and Gene Carter; and sister, Hazel Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Maudine Carter; daughters, Patricia Clay and husband Jim of Armuchee, GA, Barbara Boruff and husband Dale of Athens, Rebecca Gail Peterson of Sweetwater and Shelia Weir and husband David of Athens;son, Bobby Ray Carter of Sarasota, FL; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service is planned for Tuesday, August 19 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the Companion Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
