Tom Lewis Johnston, 88, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014, at the residence.
Born in Summerville on April 12, 1926, he was a son of the late T.P. and Zula Mae Ballenger Johnston. Mr. Johnston graduated from Subligna High School and attended West Georgia College for two years, then was drafted into the U.S. Army, during WW II. He served in Germany and Austria with the 36th Infantry Division and was an observer at the War Crimes Trials in Nuremburg, Germany. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and was a cattle farmer who retired from the Georgia Department of Agriculture after 28 years service.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Mann Johnston; daughter, Sandi Johnston Cohen; son,Tom Neal Johnston (Lyn); step-daughter, Tanya Queen (Ruben); step-son, Stacy Mann (Tina); grandkids, Chuck Cohen and Samson Johnston; step-grandkids, Amber Padgett, Lexie Mann, Macey Mann, Addie Queen and Mason Mann; and niece, Joan Butler.
