Wamp Flip Flop On Traditional Marriage

  • Friday, August 1, 2014

Just who will the populist Weston Wamp represent if elected? But there are already notable examples of how his chief campaign advisor, Zach Wamp, morphed into something other than the constitutional conservative he said he was.

Zach was a key supporter of the Defense of Marriage Act, which Congress passed to keep the federal courts from stepping on states' rights. Last year, Zach said he would not sign that legislation again. According to the Times/Free Press, he "praised the Supreme Court for responding to changes in public opinion and momentum in the gay rights movement." The Constitutional mandate of the Supreme Court is to interpret the plain language of the law, not "changes in public opinion."

But Obama is ignoring DOMA and liberal courts continue overturning state initiatives to define marriage. This week, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Virginia’s definition of marriage as between a man and a woman -- a 2006 constitutional amendment passed by Virginia voters. Zach's flip-flop on DOMA is calculated to collect more Democrat primary votes for Weston.

Why would Democrats cross primary lines to vote for Wamp unless Fleischmann is a greater threat to the Obamas agenda?
