Hill W. Bohannon, 92, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, in a Rome hospital.
A native Chattooga Countian, He was born to the late Samuel and Nellie Underwood Bohannon on May 23, 1922. He received a electrical engineer degree from Georgia Tech and later attended the University of Tennessee and was retired from the U. S. Weather Service. Mr. Bohannon was a combat Veteran of the United States Air Force, B17 Bomber pilot in WW II and Korea, and a prisoner of war during WW II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Davis Bohannon; and a son, Roger Bohannon.
Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law, Barry and Denise Bohannon; grandchildren, Rachel & Blake Payne all of Calhoun and Carrie Bohannon of Athens; great-grandson, Bo Payne; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6 at 4 p.m. from graveside in Summerville Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Kelly officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Gerald McCool, Herb Skelton, Terry Adams, Jon Payne, Leo Lanier, Randy Adnerson, Butch Eleam and Jim Warnick. Military Honors will be by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of Rome.
The Family will receive friends Saturday, July 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
