Dorothy “Dot” Painter, 83, of Dalton, GA, died on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the local hospital.
Dot was born May 7, 1931 in Gilmer County, GA to the late Avery and Irene Richards Daves; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Jess Lee Painter; daughter, Venita Stephens; son, Wayne Painter; brothers, Dallas Daves and Howard Daves; and a sister, Georgia Painter.
Dot was retired from Shaw Industries Plant #5 and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Linda Painter of Talking Rock, GA; brother, James H. Daves of Warren, MI; grandchildren, Natasha Arnold, Amanda Anderson, Brandy McAtee, Brea McCurdy and Bridgett McCurdy; great-grandchildren, Alex, Caleb, Trevor, Seth, Cierra, Tyler, Taylor, Tristan, Sydney, Joli, Aiden and Kierstyn; nieces, Linda Harrison and Nancy Williams; nephew, Herman “Buck” Painter; and several other nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Painter will be held Saturday, August 2, at 2 p.m. at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Gilmer County, GA, with Reverend Jeff Painter officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 6 p.m. on Friday, August 1 and at the church after noon on Saturday, August 2.
