Alice Louise Martin Townsend, 95, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014.

Alice was born in Elyria, Ohio.  She graduated from White Plains High School N.Y. and attended Douglas College. Alice loved music and sang in various Protestant church choirs for 60 years.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Alvin George Townsend. Alice was a beloved sister mother and grandmother.

Alice is survived by her sister, Marion Wheeler; her brother, Robert Martin and wife, Cynthia; her sons, David Townsend and wife, Gale Fellowes MD, and Richard Townsend MD and wife, Margaret; grandchildren, Heidi Townsend MD and husband, Jeff  Durdin, Erik Townsend and wife, Nuria Lopez-Tardon, Andrew Townsend and wife, Emily and Amanda Redding MD and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Jack Durdin, Sofia Townsend-Lopez and Mary Kate Redding.   

There will be no visitation at the funeral home

A graveside service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Aug. 21, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3319 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
