Albert Lamar Canada, 66, of Cloudland, GA, died on Monday, July 28, 2014, at Floyd Medical Center.


Mr. Canada was born April 27, 1948, in Chattooga County, Ga., a son of the late Richard Albert Canada and Foye Lee Hardwick Canada Styles. He attended the Cloudland Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Canada was the oldest member of the Menlo Housing Authority, served as the director of the Chattooga County Public Works and the Chattooga County Emergency Management Agency for six years, and was a member of the Alpine Lodge # 211 F. & A.M. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and was a former member of the Optimist Club. His hobbies included fishing and spending time at the lake with his family.

Mr. Canada is survived by his wife, Jane Hegwood Canada; sons, Kevin Canada, Justin Canada, and Patrick Canada; a daughter, Amy Ferguson; brothers, Larry Canada and Greg Canada; grandchildren, Chad Ferguson, Allison Ferguson, Trevor Canada, Sophie Veatch, and Carson Canada.

Funeral services for Mr. Canada will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tommy Pledger and Mr. Jon Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in the Cloudland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Shanklin – Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Donnie Hall, Spunkey Mitchell, Mike Sellers, Max Treadaway, Billy Joe Dooley, and Yogi Hegwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Woodard, Ralph Barnes, Keith Smith, Jimmy Thomason, Kevin Dallmier, Bill Colburn, Gerald Colburn, Bill Putnam, Jim Copeland, Mike Larkin, Ken Cooper, Joe Dodd, and Frank Wright.

Mr. Canada will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29.
