Bob Roby Huitt, 62, of Rock Spring, GA, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Bob was born in LaFayette, GA to the late James Everett and Helen Louise Holcomb Huitt. He lived his entire life in the Chattanooga area. Music was his life, and he had an outgoing, friendly personality, with a powerful voice that touched others with his singing. During his childhood he attended Rock Spring Elementary School. He graduated from LaFayette High School in 1970. Roby studied music at the University of Tennessee. Where he received his Master degree in Music in 1983. He also worked in data processing for thirty years, where he worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, East Ridge Hospital and Olan Mills. Roby was director of music from 1975-1977 at Rock Spring United Methodist Church. He was voted Outstanding Singer in 1977 traveling the USA, Europe and Russia on choir tours. Roby directed music at the First United Methodist Church, Cleveland, TN from 1978-1981, the East Presbyterian from 1982-1985, the Brained Presbyterian Church from 1987-1989 and the St Elmo United Methodist Church from 1999-2006. He was a music teacher from 1977-2006. During the music teaching career he also gave private voice lessons. He also performed with Chattanooga Singers, Chamber Singers, while a student at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. During his music career, he traveled with local gospel music groups and as a soloist for 35 years; performing concerts, banquets, weddings and special churches events.
He is survived by his sister, Janice Graham of Rock Spring; nieces and nephews, Rebekah (Casey) Vaughn, Rachel Graham, Anthony, Michael Gunther, Dalton (Allison) Graham and Isaac Graham; and great-niece, Baylee Ann Graham.
Funeral from the Rock Spring United Methodist Church will be Saturday, July 26 at 3 p.m. with Pastors John Brantley and Bruce Spangler officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Spring Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, July 26, from 1-3 p.m.
