William Joseph “Joe” Winslett
William Joseph “Joe” Winslett, 59, of Soddy-Daisy passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
He was born on October 6, 1954, in Bessemer/Hueytown, Ala.
Joe was dedicated to his wife, children and friends and was happiest spending time with them gathered around the campfire and the lake. He was a constant presence in the lives of his children, spending untold hours as a coach and supporter of Ali and Joey’s endeavors in sports and music and was a champion of his daughter Brooke’s Girl Scouting and love of history. He was always present for his children’s school activities and was a frequent volunteer. Joe was an avid boater, hunter and outdoorsman. He was with UPS for 35 years and a member of the Teamsters Union. He had a smile that would light up a room and encouraged each of his children to follow their individual dreams.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Brooke Winslett, and his father, William Eugene Winslett and mother Mary Jane McCaffery.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Belinda Griffith Winslett, son, William Joseph “Joey” Winslett, Jr. and daughter Alexandra Jo “Ali” Winslett. He is also survived by stepmother, Dot Winslett of Hueytown; brothers, Wendell McGuirk (Stephanie) of Murfreesboro; Tim Winslett (Rexanne) of Bristol, Virginia; and Shane Winslett of Hueytown; and sisters, Cynthia Garcia of Whiteside, Tennessee; and Sharon Prayter (Donnie) of Hueytown; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 21, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private in Riceville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
