Frances Wheeler
Frances N. Wheeler, 92, formerly of Chattanooga, died on Friday, June 13, 2014.
She was the only child of the late Nickie Harris and George Nelson. Frances worked as a substitute teacher by day and started college at the University of Chattanooga at the age of 32 by night. She continued her education by receiving a master’s degree in Education while teaching full time. Frances retired from teaching after 28 years at the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, where she served as the student council adviser for seven years. She enjoyed both the education and social interaction with all of her students. She had a deep love for her family and was quick to give gifts to family, friends and strangers.
Four years ago Frances moved to Jacksonville to be with her family. She lived at Riverside Presbyterian House where she enjoyed planned activities, bridge and knitting.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Cecil Wheeler.
Survivors include her son, Phil and his wife, Beverly and their children, Kristin Swiercek (Mike) and Gary Wheeler (Tiffany) and their children.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Girls Preparatory School, Frances Wheeler Student Council Scholarship Fund or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida will be appreciated.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, 877-3524.
