Some local youths who wind up in Juvenile Court will be judged by their peers.

Juvenile Court Judge Rob Philyaw said students from five local high schools have been selected to take part in the new Youth Court.

He administered an oath to the students at the County Commission meeting on Wednesday.

The students are from CSAS, East Ridge, Lookout Valley, Tyner and Signal Mountain.

Judge Philyaw said where the program has been tried elsewhere there has been a seven percent drop in recidivism.

He said 24 attorneys from the Miller and Martin law firm are helping out along with nine in-house BlueCross Blue Shield lawyers.
