Zimmerman's Game-Winning Grand Slam Leads Bryan Softball to Victory

Lions Advance in AAC Tournament

Becca Zimmerman's grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth gave Bryan College an 8-4 college softball win against Virginia Intermont in the AAC tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.

The victorious No. 4 seeded Lions, 27-21 on the season, face the No.2 Milligan College-No. 8 Point Univ. winner Friday.

Zimmerman led the Bryan offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Heidi Daniel also had a home run. Heather Daniel and Olivia Gore had two hits and one RBI each.

Sarah Hundley was the starter for Bryan allowing three runs on four hits and struck out seven.

Kaitie Sims threw the last three innings and received the win.  She gave up one run and three hits while striking out two batters.

The Lions struck first by scoring two runs in the first inning.  The Cobras were able to get one back in the second.  Bryan added to their lead with a run in the third off of a solo homerun by Heidi Daniel and another in the fourth.  VI closed the gap with two runs in the sixth and then tied the game with a run in the seventh.  With the score knotted at four, the game continued into extra innings.  The Lions loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, and Becca Zimmerman hit a grand slam to win the game 8-4.
