Carol Elizabeth Olson Brown, 88, of Rossville died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Arthur Emmanuel and Matilda Victoria Olson. Before moving to Rossville, she was a resident of New Orleans, La., from 1964 to 1994. She worked for The United States Naval Department in Washington where she met her husband, Dr. James H. Brown.

She was an active member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed playing the piano for the Brock Sunday School Class. She served as president of the De Paul Hospital Womens Auxiliary, was a member of the Huguenot Society and active in the Outlook Club, Fairyland Garden Club, Great Decisions Club and PEO Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge as a pastime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. James Henry Brown; sisters, Alice Bergstrom, Eva Terry, Irene Swanson; and a brother, LeRoy Olson.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Diane Elizabeth Brown (James) Johnson, of Rossville, Dr. Thomas Walter (Greyson) Brown III, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., Dr. James Henry (Sharon) Brown Jr., of Jackson, Miss.; grandchildren, Anne Blaylock Johnson, Amy Elizabeth Johnson, Thomas Walter Brown IV, Ray Bartlett Brown, James Conner Brown, Joseph Samuels Johnson, Virginia Caroline Johnson, James Henry Brown III, William Pearson Brown, Allie Elizabeth Brown, Mary Katherine Brown; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the fellowship hall of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church with the funeral service to follow in the sanctuary with Dr. Joseph Novenson and Reverend Frank Hitchings officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Chattanooga.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.
