Paul W. Smith
Paul W. Smith, 84, died on Monday, April 21, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
He was a graduate of Howard School Class of 1955. He retired from Mueller Company after 39½ years. He was a Korean veteran.
He was born Oct. 1, 1929, to the late Myrther and Callie Smith. Paul was a member of the Greater New Home Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, DeWitt and James Smith, Clem Fitch; sisters, Annie B. Butts, Callie Elderly and Magnolia McCauley.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Ida C. Smith; son, Paul L. Smith; daughters, Paula (Rickey) Marble and devoted caregiver, daughter, Clarissa R. Smith; three granddaughters, Zanta (Brandon) Jones, Keturah (Ryan) Coryell, Syretha Marble; five great-grandchildren, Cameron and Noah Coryell, Jayden Whelchel, Maliyah and Joell Jones; sister, Emma Petty; brother, Jerome Smith of New York; aunt, Cammie Whitehead (Cornelius); uncles, Worth and Dupree Millsap; brothers-in-law, Jonas Butts and Alvin Elderly, Joseph Malone (Sandra); sisters-in-law, Ezzella Harden, Edith Houston; several nieces, nephews and friends; dear friends, Rita Smith and Anthony Smith.
A graveside service will be on Friday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m., Chattanooga National Cemetery with Elder Gregory Spotts officiating.
The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, April 24, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
