Richard "Dick" E. Myers, 78, of Collegedale, Tennessee died peacefully at home on April 19, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's.

He was a member of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Richard was born in Cass County, Mi., on Nov. 13, 1935 to Alfred and Rosie Myers. In 1954, Dick graduated from Cedar Lake Academy where he met his future wife, Donna (Tremble) Myers. They were married on Nov. 6, 1955, and were devoted to each other for 58 years.

Dick was the beloved father of Mark Myers, of Ooltewah, and Mike (Deanne) Myers of Cleveland. Dick is survived by four grandchildren whom he adored. They are Jaime Myers, Jackie (Eric) Bates, Megan Myers, and Zach Myers.

Richard started his career at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Mi., as a nursing assistant. His life career was in industrial and educational construction. For 14 years he was involved in many building projects on the campus of Andrews University in Berrien Spring, Mi.

In 1971, Richard moved his family to Collegedale, Tn., where he continued building projects for the campus of Southern Adventist University. After 31 years of service, he retired as the assistant director of Plant Services.

Richard was an avid sports fan. He loved his "cubbies". He played softball for the city leagues until he was 50 years old. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Richard was the youngest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his brother, Miner, sister, Evelyn, brother, Carroll, and sister, Ernestine. He will be missed by his brother, Clifford (Rachel) Myers of Collegedale, and Dorothy Banks of Battle Creek, Mi. He is loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

As for his family, the sun will never shine quite as brightly without his presence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastors David and Cherie Smith officiating.  The interment will follow in Collegedale Memorial Park.
