John Bettis

John Weldon Bettis, Jr., 68, of Rossville died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and was of the Christian faith. He was an Army veteran, having been stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War, and enjoyed riding horses, bird watching and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Weldon Bettis, Sr. and Betty Jane Bettis and two brothers, Michael Steven Bettis and Zeno William Bettis.

Survivors include his two brothers, Daniel Lee Bettis, Sr. of Rossville, and Grady Edwin Bettis, Sr. of Florida; two sisters, Wilma Forster of Rossville, and Ruby Virginia Bettis of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 18, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Chaplain Mark Atwood, Captain Ronald Forster and Brother William "Bill" Sandberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will begin receiving friends after 3 p.m. on Thursday, and prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
